I Think She's Got It!
Pretty much exactly a year ago, Ayda decided she wanted to copy Jared in his potty skills. Every time he sat on the toilet, she would follow suit. At the beginning, she didn't produce anything, but slowly she started peeing every time. I was thrilled and thought, "Awesome - an easy one after the battle with Jared!" I guess I forgot to knock on wood.
She soon lost interest in copying Jared in the bathroom. Oh, she would still pee every time we sat her on the toilet, but she would also pee in her diaper/pull-up/underwear if she needed to. I still had hope. This went on...and on...and on. Just before Christmas she had her first successful poop on the potty. It was a fluke, as I caught her in the act and got her on the potty on time. But I thought, "Hey - maybe now she gets the idea." Nope.
Two days ago, she was still peeing and pooping in her pants without a care. Yesterday, she wanted to wear underwear. "Okay", I thought. "We're at home all day today, we'll give it a go." And she was fairly good, but it was mostly me taking her to the bathroom over the day. She did initiate a couple of times. And didn't poop at all.
But God sent the the angel of mercy and potty training to our house during the night. We were gone from 8:30 this morning until supper time and the only accident she had was because she couldn't get her pants undone quickly enough. She initiated every single potty trip - and wow, did we make a lot of them!! She even told me she had to poop and, in the toilet, DID!!! That shocked me beyond anything else!! I was SO happy!!! She fell asleep (and I mean DEAD asleep) in the truck after swimming lessons (and on a side note, I carried her from the truck, to the very back of Zellers to pick a movie for her potty success, had to take a rest on the floor in the movie section for about 5 minutes, and then back to the truck - she never sleeps like that! And of course, she woke up as I put her back into the truck. Grrr.) okay, where was I? Oh yeah, she stayed dry through that sleep and all the way home. She went into the house before me, and when I came in, she was just getting onto the toilet, still with jacket and boots on. She said, "I had to go pee, but I held it until I got to the potty." Good, good girl.
I have absolutely no idea what switched in her head, but I don't care. I'm just so glad it switched. Praise the Lord. And I am so serious.
