It was so awesome to read all the comments from people on my last post - it truly is a blessing to be so supported by so many people! Except for that one annoynomous post - yes, I am fully aware that a lot of first pregnancies go over-due, but definitely not all of them!! So can't I hope?! Besides, the chances of Baby flipping at 36 weeks were SO LOW, and s/he did it anyway, despite the odds.

Way to keep your hopes up Allison!! I can't believe that the average is 41.5, since that is the latest most doctors will let you go now... that would mean that it is also average for most first time moms to be induced at 10 days.... which I sure haven't heard. We'll keep our early labour dreams together!!
I agree, while many do go over the first time, I disagree that 41.5 is the average.
There's so much dissenting info for pregnant women to digest that you can't listen to it all.
i think most times babies aren't even overdue, the mother's just aren't certain about the exact due date. they are relying on the ultrasound info. which is never as accurate as knowing the exact date in which the baby was conceived:) so if you know the exact date of conception, no worries. best of luck. happy pushing.
Dr.'s will let you be induced at 10 days overdue but it doesn't mean you have to be induced. Many women chose to let their bodies say when baby is ready to come out.
To the anonymous commenters:
I would just like to clarify (and I don't need to be anonymous because I can site the source for you if you like...), that in North America, women's due dates are figured at least one week early. So, by the time the "10 day overdue mark" comes around, a woman is actually only 3 days overdue.
Babies can come at any time, and they come in all sizes (hence ultrasoud dates sometimes being inaccurate).
So, I think people don't need to get hung up on due dates and baby sizes. If a woman wants to go with her medical professional and get induced when they feel she should -- fine. If she wants to go with her own research/gut feelings/whatever -- fine.
I loooove the "factual" statements that sprout up here in the comments.
"Most" Drs won't let a mother go much more than 10 days overdue before inducing her.
There are even some who believe that having sex can induce labour.
But, thank god women see their doc every week near the end, because they can get honest answers instead of relying on anonymous commenters on a blog.
