So we had another ultrasound today, and saw my obstetrician. Yeah. So what I thought was the bum sticking up into my ribs is actually Baby's head. Yup, we have ourselves a breech baby. Oh wait - it gets better! Not only is Baby breech, but it's what they call "Double Footling Breech", which means that both feet, not the bum, are engaged in my pelvis. So unless Baby decides to hike those feet up and turn him/herself, s/he ain't going anywhere (which rules out trying to manually turn Baby). So not exactly what we wanted to hear, but I'm glad we had this extra ultrasound, because how horrible would it have been to not know, go into labour, and THEN find out that we had to have an emergency section!! This way, I can at least prepare myself for it. Of course, there is always the chance that Baby will turn on his/her own, which is what I would like. But as it stands now, the best thing is a section. So I am preparing myself for that. Sigh. I guess the only good thing about this is that we also found out today that Baby has a big head, so a section makes that easier! Yup, back to a big baby - the radiologist guessed the weight to be about a week ahead of the average baby - we are sitting at the 68th percentile, I think it was. But most important, Baby is very healthy - I'd rather have a big, healthy Baby than one that is too small and underweight. So that's my news for the day - check out the pictures I just posted, below.

A week or so ago our doc told us the babe still has room to move around, although it's getting tighter in there.
I would think there's still a chance it could change position, however slim that may be. Ours was actually kind of horizontal last week, according to the doc.
You look very happy, great to see!

What a beautiful ultrasound picture! I've never seen a good face picture like that before!

That's too bad about the baby being breech. Keep positive, though. I'm sure you've heard, babies can even flip at 40 weeks. My kids were both transverse until 30 weeks, I think. I'm a big believer in positive thinking. Are you trying any of those poses to try to turn the baby? I wish I knew Annika was face up, because then I would have done those poses, and a LOT of WILLING the baby to turn and prayer.

It's good you can prepare yourself mentally for a possible c-section. And like you said, it would be worse if you went through labour, and THEN had to have a section! It's also good you have a close friend who just had a c-section to give you lots of tips.

Don't you think it's neat how Mother Nature works? Babies are usually breech because of some factor, for example, large or small heads, in which case a c-section is the safest way to deliver. So you think you're having the section because of the baby's position, but it is actually God's way of making sure the baby is born safely because there is some other underlying factor. I think that's cool. God knows best.

Wow are you PREGO!

You look great Allie, and so does the baby. Wonderful photos, as usual. Love the "Motherhood is HOT" tank. Hilar.

It is better to have a planned section if you are going to need one in the end anyways. I had a lady that was footling breech and four centimeres dilated--she didnt know she was breech before she came to the hospital!

But that baby could still turn around.

I sure hope you have this baby before I go to Halifax!

Love you

Congratulations! It's getting close! I'm 37 1/2 weeks and found your blog through a link on Outburst's site.

I'm a teacher, too...what a coinky-dink!

You look fantastic! Enjoy these last few weeks!
