So, my soccer team is in Provincials this weekend. And we didn't do the best. Well, we did okay, just not what we could have done. But we can't live in "what if" land, now can we?!
But there is something that makes me upset. During our last game, the coach shortened the bench for the last 5 or 10 minutes, because we were down 2-1. And we scored (actually - I scored!) so we were tied. So we played those same people the rest of the game, because they were having a good game. And two of the girls were very mad at the coach because of this. They thought that it didn't matter, we should have continued playing with a full bench, rotating like normal. Now, I really like these girls and they are definitely skilled enough to be playing in Division I, but COME ON!! It IS Div. I!! This is a competitive league, and you use strategies like this one during important games. If we had won, we would have advanced further. And yes, I was one of the players that played the last few minutes, but I have been on teams where I was the player that sat out the last few minutes, so I've been on both sides, and the bottom line is that we are in a competitive league and we need to think like a team and whatever is best for the team. Suck up your pride and deal with it. Like I said, these gals are excellent players, but other players were just playing better this particular game. Next time, it will be the other way around. If you don't want to play this way, then maybe you should move to a less competitive division. I felt bad for our coach. He made a judgement call, and in my opinion, a good one. Now I'm just not sure if I should say something before our next game. I hate tension, but I don't want to open a can of worms. And I don't want the girls to think that I don't like them or don't think they are good. In fact, I really want them to continue to play with us. I just didn't appreciate their attitudes.
I also just found out that a girl who had committed to playing with our outdoor team turned on us and is now playing for a different team. She said that we don't have a committed enough team. Ummm, how are we supposed to attain a committed team when people keep leaving?! And I think we have proven ourselves this past indoor season. It's really a feeling of betrayal. Sigh. I thought we were doing so well...
Anyway, must go. We have one more game tonight.
