So I found out today that I am now on two sub lists: Saskatoon East (still outside of Saskatoon) and Sask. Valley (the division I graduated from). That's all fine and dandy, and it will be nice to get my foot in the door, but I am really not that excited. In fact, I am quite nervous - well, it kind of comes and goes. I guess I feel that university did NOTHING to prepare me for the regular parts of teaching, like what do you do when you walk into a classroom as a sub? What if you end up subbing a subject you know nothing about? If I get years K-5, it's not so much an issue. But I keep imagining getting the higher grades and having them run me over. I remember what it was like having a new sub, I just can't remember what separated the "good ones" (the ones that we liked and acted fine for) from the "bad ones" (the ones we drove out of the teaching profession). Now THAT should be a mandatory class: Substitute Teaching 101. Any suggestions from the teachers out there? My email is ralongueil@canada.com - sorry, I tried to put the comment thing on my blog, but can't get it to work.
My first step next week is to "sell" myself to the schools in each division. Hope it works. I've never been in the "selling myself" profession before.
On a completely different note, Ryan and I started kickboxing this past week. I am so sore, and so happy. It is awesome! I think I have a knack for it, because the instructor commented that I must have done this sort of thing before - in my second class ever! Yea!! I am a gifted puncher and kicker.
